Reece Hatfield has just one rule when it comes to falling in love don't fucking do it. There's no room in his life for another person. He can barely keep a handle on things as it is. A shadow of the man he used to be, Reece spends his days tattooing, the artist inside of him longing for the chance to do something different. Avery Moore is all dance, all the time. Ballet is all she's ever known, and she's damn good at it. Her body is her art, a living canvas that captivates Reece the first time he lays his eyes on her. He yearns to leave his mark on her body... in more ways than one. The tattooed degenerate with a shady past. The beautiful ballerina with a bright future. They live in different worlds, yet somehow, they fit. But just because they fit doesn't mean they belong together. Cracks sometimes form. Two pieces don't always make a whole. The course of love never did run smoothly. Things get messy. And Reece doesn't do messy. Not anymore.

First off, I will try not to be negative whatsoever.
Darhower is a wonderful author. She writes beautifully! I know I'm in the minority, and that's okay. I'm happy a lot of people enjoyed this story. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me for these reasons:

1. The hero... He was very dramatic. He had that woe is me vibe, and I don't like having to feel pity over the main character if I don't even know what has happened to them. Didn't seem like he had much of a drive. I just didn't find him likeable. I tried. Believe me, I tried, but he was so hollow and one dimensional. He was also very inconsistent. One second cocky, the next all sad and mopey. Jeesh, get it together, man!

2. I didn't understand Avery so much. I wanted inside her head. I wanted to feel for her, to see what she saw in Reece that was so alluring. I needed to understand so I could better see the attraction. The scenes were a little mechanical and felt forced. I just didn't get it! Why, woman, did you seek this man out time and time again?!?!!? Halfway into the book and they've screwed, hung out, done everything - even sex without a condom - and he doesn't even know her number? At this point, would he even have chased her if she just disappeared?

3. The story was boring. This is just a simple observation as a reader. I don't mean for it to sound rude at all. It was just... boring. I don't apologize for saying that, either. Nothing happens. I didn't feel the characters grow. I didn't feel like I was inside the hero's head. He was just narrating what was going on and that was pretty much it.

4. I like kids. I'm surrounded by kindergarteners every single day. I have never met a 5 year old that speaks the way Lexie does at times. If she was a tad older, maybe 7, I would understand. There were a few things said that were adorable, sure, but the child wasn't believable, and, to be honest, she came off like a kid that has never been disciplined and always left to her own devices. Go ahead and throw your tomatoes at me, that's just my opinion.

5. Not a lot of heat. Didn't feel the emotions.

Other than that, the writing was lovely. But even good writing can't salvage a story that is kind of non-existent.

The Mad Tatter JM Darhower 9781942206149 Books Reviews

So I am starting at the very beginning with this one. No, I don't mean chapter one... I mean that one place people seem to decide if they are going to read a book from. I typically don't. But there was something that just captivated me about the cover of this book. I didn't pay attention to the model on the cover, I was looking intently at the picture as a whole. But it wasn't until I read the book that I truly appreciated the cover. Yes, I know... Charlie Keller... who can resist looking at him right? Well honestly, at first look, I didn't know it was Charlie (gasp!). But I was drawn to the cover of this book and I wasn't really sure why, then I read the book and suddenly the cover came to life. It was an image that was not only perfect for the book, but perfect for the story and the character.

Now as far as the story goes... I fell in complete love with this story. Reese, the artist that has lost his inspiration, struggles day to day as a tattoo artist. Avery, the beautiful dancer with a set path in life but completely unsure of what the future holds. Two souls, one story, one future. Beautiful, touching and one of those stories that just stays with you.

The characters had flaws, they weren't perfect. But they were perfect for each other and the story line was perfect for them. I struggled at first because I couldn't figure out what up with Reese. I didn't understand why he walked away from art. Why he spent so much time isolating himself and his heart. But the more I read, the more I was drawn to his character. He was strength and weakness but he had a good heart and there was nothing more important to him than his "Little Miss." That relationship completely stole my heart. But it wasn't just Reese that caught me... it was Avery as well. She has a heart of gold. She is so strong and patient. But there was something truly special about her. She was able to see past Reese's flaws and his faults and find the man beneath. She was able to see beyond his past and only look at his today and tomorrow. She brought him to life again and it was touching and inspiring. I loved the transformations that I saw in both characters. Both with flaws but both determined to come out the victor in their own story.

This book was recommended to me by a friend, so when I purchased a copy of it, I really had no idea what to expect, but I loved the synopsis of it so I thought I would give it a try. I am so glad I did. What surprised me most is how much I loved this story. It wasn't overly dramatic, I didn't find myself crying all over the neighborhood and I was mad at the author at any point in it. And yet, it was real, raw and honest. It was a breath of fresh air for me and I definitely would recommend to others to read it!
I just didn't care for it... I had to force myself to finish it...I haven't had that ever happen before...returning the book...
OMG!!!

I loved this freaking book!!! The Mad Tatter is seriously hands down one of the best I've ever read.

"Sometimes, I feel like I'm just a step away from chopping my own dick off and slapping somebody with it. The only thing stopping me is that I happen to like my dick."

It's my first by this author I immediately fell in love with her writing & characters it's seriously so unique, funny, raw, gritty, real, sexy I could go on all day about this story I even cried in bits. This story is ADDICTING! I looove that it's a male POV! Being inside Reece's head was such a unique and amazing way to read this story.

"Others may have touched the goddess, and maybe even marked her for a short time, but I want to be the one to leave the lasting mark."

I couldn't read it fast enough finishing in about twelve hrs but I also was so sad to get to the end bc I loved the characters & story so much!!!! Each character's story pulled me in and left me reading as fast as I possibly could, forgoing sleep as I read until almost 3am when I had to get up at 7 lol. I literally could not get enough of Reece and Avery. Even Little Miss.

"People still judge a book by it's cover, Avery. And your story? It's beautiful. You're beautiful. But I'm nothing but a ripped out page, graffiti where someone should never me. Don't taint your story with me."

I fell madly in love with The Mad Tatter. I hope we get more from them down the road bc I'm not ready to say goodbye just yet <3
